| Transcript | DR. J. P. GRIES Director of Graduate Studies GRADUATE SCHOOL Over 30 students, representing all degree granting departments on the campus are now engaged in graduate study at the School of Mines and Technology. Because this is the first time the Graduate School has been honored with a separate section in the ENGINEER, perhaps a bit of history of our graduate program may be in order. Prior to 1937, post-graduate students completing a year or more of advanced work, and submitting a suitable thesis, were awarded the professional degree in their particular field. From 1937 to 1950, students completing these same requirements were awarded the degree of Master of Science in their field of specialization. In 1950, under the direction of President Warren Wilson, a more formal graduate program was established. Policies and regulations were outlined by the newly formed Committee on Graduate Studies, and approved by the faculty. Administration was placed in the hands of the Director of Graduate Studies. Under this formal program, approximately 60 Masters' degrees have been awarded. PETER V. AVOTINS Faulkton Metallurgical Engineering SHERWIN D. ARTUS Belle Fourche Mining Engineering RONALD F.
