DescriptionShozo Sato, Japanese artist, assists Whitney Buss with her costume. The Arts of Japan honors seminar focused on Sato's visit and his expression of various forms of Japanese art, including sumi-e (black ink drawing) and ikebana (flower arranging). Sato's book, The Art of Arranging Flowers, is considered by critics to be the preeminent book in this area. Additionally, Sato is proficient in Kabuki Theater. Through Kabuki, a form of art that combines drama, music, and dance, Sato promotes peace and understanding between the American and Japanese cultures. Kabuki Medea was performed on stage in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts on February 23-27, 1994.
