NoteDescription for slide taken from "Lecture to accompany set of Lantern Slide Views of the University of South Dakota." Introduction reads: The University of South Dakota, located at Vermillion, first began class work in October, 1882. The first class, consisting of three members, was awarded degrees in 1888. Since that time, including the commencement of 1929, the University has awarded degrees to more than 2, 200 persons. For the school year 1929-1930, there were 1, 080 students in the University, and in addition to this, 298 students attended the summer session and 250 students took work by correspondence. The University is divided into a number of schools, colleges, and departments, including the college of arts and sciences, the school of business administration, the school of education, the college of engineering, the school of law, the school of medicine, the college of music, the graduate school, and the extension division.
