TranscriptMany Selby Area students received awards' Tuesday, May 16 7 Several Selby Area students were the recipients of scholarships and honors at the Activities Awards Program held Tuesday, May 16, at the Selby Area School Gym. Amy Leidle, daughter of Gary and Mary Leidle of rural Selby, has been awarded both the President's Scholarship and the Leadership and Talent Scholarship at Mankato State University at Mankato, Minnesota. She is also the recipient of the Bank West Scholarship. Aleshia Berens, daughter of Ron and Pat Berens of rural Selby, has been awarded the Basin/Cam Wal Electric Cooperative Scholarship and an academic scholarship to the University of Mary at Bismarck. She plans to pursue a double major in accounting and business administration. Lucas Kosters, the son of Char and Rodney Kosters of Selby, has received an academic scholarship to the University of Mary at Bismarck. He plans to pursue a degree in athletic training and physical education. Nancy Ruzsa, daughter of Rodney and Beverly Ruzsa of rural Selby, has been awarded the Herb Adolph Scholarship. This memorial scholarship is being awarded to a Selby Area High School senior by relatives of Herb Adolph in memory of Adolph who passed away in 1993. Adolph was born in 1937 and attended the Selby School system graduating in 1955. While in the Selby High School, he participated in football, basketball^ uatfc, aim Daseoaii and in nis senior year was named "Athlete of the Year.". Ruzsa plans to attend South Dakota State University at Brookings. Malene Bandy, daughter of Michael and Mercy Bandy of Glen-ham, is the recipient of an Incentive Scholarship at Northern Stale University at Aberdeen. Bandy plans to attend NSU and major in psychology. Kristin Baumann, daughter of Roger and Patti Baumann of Selby, is the recipient of the Leadership Scholarship to the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. Baumann plans to attend USD and major in biology and psychology. Angela DeJong, daughter of Harvey and Marcie DeJong of Selby, has been awarded the Brinker Student Achievement Scholarship at Dakota State University at Madison. DeJong plans to attend DSU and major in Business. tXjfohn Fiedler, son of Gary and Barb Fiedler of Glenham, is the recipient of a scholarship to the S.D. School of Mines at Rapid City and the Sylvia Alinder Scholarship given by Ruth Ann Akre and David Alinder. Fiedler plans to attend the School oJF Mines and major Mechanical Engineering. David Frank, son of Earl *nd ' MarleneofruralJava, willreceivean academic scholarship to the University of Mary at Bismarck. The awards and those who received them are as follows: Earl Frank presented the VFW Voice of Democracy Award to Amy Leidle. Aleshia Berens, Kristin Baumann and John Fiedler were named to the President's Education Award. Aleshia Berens and Lucas Kosters were named to the Wendy's High.School Heisroan Award. Legislative Page Awards were presented to Amy Leidle and Nicole Keller. Grant Walker and Kristin Baumann were named to the United States Senate Youth Program. T J. Von Wald was named to the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Award. John Fiedler was named to the Tandy Technology Scholars Award. The Academic All-State Team Award was presented to John Fiedler. The Academic Excellence Award was presented to John Fiedler. The DAR Good Citizen Award was presented to Kristin Baumann by the Daughters of the American Revo-i lution. Selection is based on depeoW ability, leadership, service and patriotism. South Dakota Girls' and Boys' State delegates and alternates were recognized. Girls' State delegates were Amy Leidle and Nancy Ruzsa and alternate was Kristin Baumann. Boys' State delegates were Andy Lutz, David Frank and John Fiedler. Alternates were Grant Walker and Roy Reiss. "I Dare You Awards" were presented to Shane Quaschnick and Donald Ernst. This award is presented to the highest ranking juniors. KFYR-TV's "Best of the Class" Award was awarded to the top honor students of the graduating senior class. The two students from the class of 1995 who received this award were John Fiedler and Grant Walker. Selby Area's honor students were recognized. They include: highest honors, Grant Walker, Aleshia Berens, John Fiedler, and Kristin Baumann; high honors, Malene A. Bandy, Lorilee Gosch, Lucas Kosters, Amy Leidle, David Mitchell and Roy Reiss; honors, Angela DeJong, Nicole Keller, Darin Knecht, Dawn Lassan-ske, Andrew Lutz and Nancy Ruzsa. Recognition for their participation in "Hi-Q" were: Grant Walker, Andy Lutz, David Mitchell, Donald Ernst, John Fiedler and Roy Reiss. Science Awards were given to Senior Quiz Bowl participants: Matt Schilling, Chad Fahmi, Erica Ekrem V and T.J. Von Wald. \ Junior Science Bowl participants: L.J. Ottenbacher, Whitney Moser, HeidiHuber, TomHettich, andSteve Walth.
