St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ( January 5, 1998) SDSM& T STUDENTS FROM MITCHELL AREA INITIATED INTO NATIONAL ORDER OF OMEGA Four students from the Mitchell area— Brian Butterfield and Jon Larson of Mitchell, Dan Baumiller of Parkston, and Mandy Hubbard of Pukwana— were recently inducted into SDSM& T's Xi Tau Chapter of the National Order of Omega, which is the highest fraternity and sorority honor on the SDSM& T and many other campuses. Brian Butterfield, a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, is a senior Computer Engineering major. His activities at SDSM& T include Student Association President, Senator ( Sophomore), and Public Relations Chairman; Delta Sigma Phi Editor, Quarter Master and Engineered Leadership; TONITE Public Relations Chair; Leadership Development Team Chair; Retention Assistant to Dean's Office; and Volunteer for the Rapid City Police Department Halloween Party. He is the son of Gary Butterfield of Mitchell. Jon Larson, a junior Mining Engineering major, is a member of the Theta Tau fraternity. His campus activities include ROTC Color Guard ( 1995- 96), ROTC Ranger Challenge Team, Theta Tau House Business Manager, Tau Beta Pi, and Scribe of Theta Tau. He is the son of Jay Larson of Mitchell. Dan Baumiller, a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, is a junior Chemical Engineering major. Dan's activities at South Dakota Tech include Tau Beta Pi Alumni Director, Drama Club, Intramural Athletics, and Rapid City Haunted House Volunteer. He is the son of Ivan Baumiller of Parkston. Mandy Hubbard, a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, is a junior Interdisciplinary Sciences pre- law major. She is the daughter of Carla and Dennis Hubbard of Pukwana. Her activities at South Dakota Tech include Varsity Basketball; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Hardrock Club; Intramurals, United Campus Ministries Leadership Board; Women's Bible Group; M- Club; Tech Variety shows; Alpha Delta Pi Rush Chair ( 2 years), Pride Leader, and Pledge Captain; UCC Sunday School Teacher; UCC Youth Bell Director; Empowerment through Sisterhood ( ETS); Women Feminist Group; City Volleyball and Softball; and Volunteer Recruiter for Juvenile Delinquent Center Program. ++ 30++ ( f:\ programs\ dept\ univrel\ pressrele\ 198\ Order of Omega Local Mitchell) |
