CSC school year ending Three ceremonies this weekend will conclude the school year at Chadron State College. Ivy Day will be at 8 p.m. Friday, May 3 in Memorial Hall while two graduations will be Saturday morning. The first graduation program will be at 8:30 a.m. in Memorial Hall for those earning graduate degrees. The other will be at 10 a.m. in the Armstrong Building for those receiving bachelor's degrees. There are expected to be a total of 285 graduates, including 33 who will receive advanced degrees. Speaking at the first graduation will be Dr. Pat Colgate, dean of the School of Education and Graduate Studies at Chadron State and a member of the college faculty since 1965. The undergraduate See Graduation on Page 16 Graduation Continued from Front Page speaker will be Dr. Richard Gowen, president of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City since 1987. Ivy Day is set aside to honor the college's top senior scholars in each academic area and present other special awards. The faculty greater at Ivy Day will be Ann Smith, who is beginning a phased retirement after teaching health and physical education at Chadron State since 1980. Also speaking will be seniors Shelley Fischer of Humphrey, representing Cardinal Key National Honor Society, and Brett Littlejohn of Chappell, representing Blue Key National Honor Fraternity. Those organizations also have chosen candidates from their membership for Ivy Day king and queen. The king candidates are Kim Dickmeyer, Venango; Austin Forster, Gordon; Tim Kamerzell, Alliance; Chris Schweitzer, Central City; and John Shade, Powell, Wyo. The queen candidates are Fischer, Erin French, Custer, S.D.; Christie Miller, Casper, Wyo.; Anna Schmidt, Chadron; and Misty Winters, Elwood. |
