| Transcript | UNIVERSAL Record Chadron, NE Cir.W. 2, 851 MAR 11 1997 Universal Press Clipping Bureau Cary selected to receive award Phil Cary, mathematics and physics teacher at Chadron High School has been selected to receive the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology outstanding teaching award. Cary was nominated by Amy Landreth a former student of his who is attending SDSM&T. "I am especially grateful for three things, " Cary said. "First I appreciate this award because I have such high regard for the education offered by the School of Mines, " Cary said. "I am grateful for the 17 years of teaching at Chadron High School and the support provided by the administration, students and parents. There is no way I could have received this award without that support, " Gary said. "And, lastly. I'm thankful to Amy Landreih. There is no higher reward than to have a student from the past say, thank you, you taught me well, " Cary said. After graduating from the University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in education, Cary completed his master's in physics from University of Missouri in Kansas City. Cary has been selected as teacher of the year four times by graduating seniors since 1988. Additional professional recognition include as a teaching assistant for the High School Teachers Engineering Program at the University of Wyoming in 1993, and he was a state of Wyoming finalist for the Christa McCauliffe Award in 1987. |
