South Dakota School of Mines and Technology - Dean's List Patrick Deering, civil and environmental engineering and Adam Watterson, mechanical engineering. Students must maintain a 3.40 or higher grade point average. University of Sioux Falls - Dean's List Christa D. Buechler, Brandon; Melanie L McClain, Brandon; Kara L Van Ruler, Brandon, Catrina L. Wilson, Brandon. Students must maintain a 3.5 grade point average or higher. USF-Graduates Melanie L. McClain, bachelor of arts in elementary education; Evelyn Happeny, Fosston, Minn., bachelor of arts in management; Chad Olson, Valley Springs, bachelor of arts in management; Mindi Skiles, Valley Springs, bachelor of arts in management; Kimberly Erkonen, Brandon, master of business administration; Christa Beuchler, Brandon, bachelor of arts in elementary education; Nicholas Sittig, Brandon, bachelor of arts in music education. South Dakota State University - Matthew Brand of Valley Springs was named the recipient of the Symonds BVHS "Jackrabbit" Scholarship for the 2001-02 year at SDSU. Brand is the son of Ralph and Nancy Brand of Valley Springs and a graduate of BVHS. Loren and Roberta Symonds, both Brandon Valley High School graduates, created the scholarship to benefit graduating BVHS seniors planning to attend SDSU. Loren Symonds, who earned a bachelor's degree in biology in 1972 and entered the Air Force in 1973, is a pilot with American Airlines. South Dakota State University Top award winners were announced June 2, during the final day of South Dakota Girls State at South Dakota State University in Brookings. Kendra Dwight of Rapid City was elected governor of Girls State. Justina Bauer of Rapid City was elected lieutenant governor. As governor, Dwight received a $500 scholarship from Augustana College and the right to return next year to reside over Girls State. Baer received an $800 scholarship from Dakota State University. Elizabeth Overmoe of Watertown and Mollie Gabys of Clear Lake were elected Girls Nation delegates. Both young women received $500 scholarships from SDSU. Girls Nation alternates are Jenifer Doll of Pierre and Sydney Quinn of Rapid City. Elizabeth Wilts of Brandon was named Outstanding Citizen and received a $400 scholarship from Northern State University. Kristen Strissel of Rapid City was named Outstanding Journalist and received a $200 scholarship from the SDSU Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Grace Mlady of Mitchell was "named Outstanding Speaker and received a $300 scholarship from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Elizabeth Wilts of Brandon was elected Presiding Supreme Court Justice and received a $500 scholarship from Dakota Wesleyan University. Tasha Hull of Tulare scored highest on the comprehensive test and recieved a $300 scholarship from the University of South Dakota. Nichole Brockhoft of Winner received a $500 Samsung Scholarship from the American Legion. |
