St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( September 25, 1997) MEDIA TIP SHEET: SDSM& T EVENTS FOR WEEK OF SEPT. 28 - OCT. 4, 1997 Following is a summary of activities taking place at South Dakota Tech during the week of September 28 - October 4, 1997: Tuesday, Sept. 30: Dedication of Center of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing & Production ( CAMP) 11: 00 a. m., Surbeck Center Ballroom CAMP is an important new program on campus help provide the best design/ manufacturing education to Tech students and also help companies solve design and manufacturing problems through the use of enterprise teams. SDSM& T President Dr. Richard Gowen will make the formal CAMP announcement. Dr. Michael Batchelder, Interim Dean of College of Systems Engineering, and Dr. Dan Dolan, Professor of Mechanical Engineering will explain the operation of the center. CAMP students will be present to show their projects and to lead tours to various manufacturing laboratories on campus. For additional information, contact Dr. Dan Dolan, 394- 1273. Tech Team Participates in YMCA Corporate Cup Events begin at 5: 00 p. m. and run throughout the evening at the YMCA * 6: 20 p. m. SDSM& T President Richard Gowen participates in the CEO Dunk Tank Tech teams will participate in basketball free throws, 6- on- 6 Coed Volleyball, obstacle course, toilet paper toss, tug of war, one leg egg toss, pickle ball, CEO challenge, Putt- for- Points, and several other categories. Wed. Oct. 1: Institute of Atmospheric Sciences Seminar: " An Inside Look at Florida Thunderstorms" Speaker: Dr. Andy Detwiler, Research Professor of Meteorology 3: 00 p. m. The Friendship Family program allows interested families the opportunity to offer a family support system to international students attending universities in Rapid City. Families and students are able to enjoy outings, dinners, movies and other activities of interest to both parties. Friday, Oct. 3: SDSM& T Professors Read from their Work in South Dakota Humanities Council's Silver Anniversary Anthology South Dakota Humanities Conference, Black Hills State University, Spearfish Dr. Kathy Antonen, Dr. Michael Day, Takako Day, Dr. Toni Logar and Dr. Judy Sneller will read from their work in the South Dakota Humanities Council's Silver Anniversary Anthology. Saturday, Oct, 4: SDSM& T Professors to Be Panel Speakers at South Dakota Humanities Conference Black Hills State University, Spearfish Drs. Michael Day and Michael McDonald, SDSM& T Humanities Department, will speak during the " Orality and Literacy in the Next Millennium" panel. Dr. Sid Goss, SDSM& T Social Sciences Department, will make a presentation during " The Great Plains Chatauqua as a Humanities Forum" panel.
