St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ( January 15, 1998) DEVEREAUX LIBRARY 1998 FILM SERIES FEATURES THE PHILADEPHIA STORY AT THE ELKS THEATRE THIS SUNDAY EVENING The Philadelphia Story— the only movie role for which Jimmy Stewart won an Oscar— is the featured movie this Sunday evening as part of the SDSM& T Devereaux Library's 1998 film series, " Nostalgia Night 1998— Box Office Bonanzas." The movie starts at 6: 00 p. m. at the Elks Theatre. Dacotah Cement and the SDSM& T Alumni Association are the corporate sponsors of this Sunday's showing of The Philadelphia Story. The 1940 movie stars Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and James Stewart. The role of Tracy Lord was written specifically for Katharine Hepburn. The movie revived her sagging movie career. Hepburn controlled the film rights and chose the director, writer and her co- stars. Cary Grant demanded top billing and then donated his salary to British War Relief. Although nominated five times for an Academy Award, James Stewart won his only Oscar for his role in this film. With the support of the Elks Theatre and several local sponsors, The Friends of the Devereaux Library will be hosting a different " Box Office Bonanza" every Sunday evening from now through March 15, 1998. All shows begin at 6: 00 p. m. Other films in this year's Nostalgia Night series and the dates to be shown include: The King and I ( Jan. 25), Shane ( Feb. 1); The Graduate ( Feb. 8); The Caine Mutiny ( Feb. 15); A Man for All Seasons ( Feb. 22); West Side Story ( Mar. 1); Deliverance ( Mar. 8); and Blazing Saddles ( Mar. 15). Ticket booklets ($ 25) for the film series are available at the Elks Theatre. Proceeds from the film series are used to support programs and resources at the Devereaux Library. Individual tickets will be sold at the door for $ 4.00 on a space available basis.
