St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( September 19, 1997) SDSM& T CAREER FAIR SEPTEMBER 22 TO BE LARGEST RECRUITING EVENT IN TECH HISTORY Nearly fifty companies and organizations are scheduled to recruit Tech students for placement, summer internships and cooperative education during the 1997 Career Fair being held Monday, September 22. This year's recruiting event, the largest in Tech history, will run from 9: 00 am - noon and 1: 30 - 4: 30pm in the Surbeck Center Ballroom. According to Jack Hunter, SDSM& T Director of Career Planning and Cooperative Placement, undergraduate cooperative education and summer internships reached an all- time high last year. Eighty percent of Tech's Engineering and Science graduates have relevant work experience when they graduate. Tech students reporting full time job offers at graduation last year increased by 10% compared to 95- 96. Bachelor of Science graduates from Tech attending graduate or professional schools increased from 15% to 20% this past year. The following companies and organizations are scheduled to participate in SDSM& T's 1997 Career Fair: Alcatel Network Systems, Archer Daniels Midland ( ADM), ASME International ( SDSM& T), Barrick Goldstrike Mines, Boeing ( Seattle), Burns & McDonnell Engineers, Cargill, Inc., Cray Research/ Silicon Graphics, Electrical Engineering ( SDSM& T), Farmers Insurance Group, Fey Industries, Inc., Fisher Controls International, Gateway 2000, General Chemical, Hewlett Packard, Hormel Foods, Horton Vehicle Components, Hughes Information Systems, Hughes STX ( EROS Data Center), Hutchinson Technology Inc., Ingersoll Milling, Kiewit Mining Group, LTV Steel, Martin & Associates, Math & Computer Science Dept. ( SDSM& T), Microsoft Corporation, Midcom Incorporated, Newmont Gold, North Star Steel, Northwestern Mutual Life, Phelps Dodge, Phoenix International, Rockwell Avionics & Communications, Schlumberger Wireline, SDSM& T Counseling Services, Seagate, Sencore Electronics, Starkey Laboratories, 3M, USD Graduate School, USD Law School, U.
