The forum is open to all interested students. This week's program featuring Rapid City's new First Lady will conclude the series of weekly forums which SDSM& T's SKILL students have sponsored during the 1996- 1997 school year. The purpose of the SKILL Community Outreach Forums is to promote American Indian students within the Rapid City community and among their peers. The SKILL students recognize the importance of providing educational information to their peers about issues that are otherwise not brought into the classroom which have major effects on their daily lives. SDSM& T's SKILL ( Scientific Knowledge for Indian Learning and Leadership) program has numerous programs in Rapid City middle and high schools. Other community outreach activities by SKILL students include working at the Mission and also visiting elementary classrooms where they provide hands- on activities with the students. Now in its fourth year, the SKILL program at Rapid City Central High School works with students to increase their skills in research and promote interest in science, math and engineering. For additional information about the Community Forum or the SKILL program, contact Philip Huebner, SKILL Director, at 394- 1828. ++ 30++ ( f:\ programs\ dept\ univrel\ pressrele\ 0507\ SKILL Forum 1st Lady faxlocal/ ICT)
