THOMAS MORE STUDENTS WIN SEVERAL HONORS IN 1997 SDSM& T SCIENCE CONTEST St. Thomas More High School students won several Division II honors during the recent 1997 SDSM& T Science Contest. In Division II ( schools with less than 500 students), St. Thomas More students won six individual honors and also took home the traveling team trophies in three of the four categories -- biology, chemistry, and physics. Over 250 entrants from area high schools competed in the 1997 SDSM& T Science Contest, which was held on the South Dakota Tech campus on April 15th. Individual students and teams competed in the categories of biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics. St. Thomas More students winning individual honors are as follows: 1st Place Chemistry- Pedro Teixeira; 1st Place Physics - Erin Pjroutek; 2nd Place Biology - Dan Vulcan; 2nd Place Earth Science - Paul Stenberg; 2nd Place Physics - Gerald Fornwald; and 3rd Place Chemistry - Anthony Gervasi. The St. Thomas More team members and teachers who won the traveling team trophy in their respective category are as follows: Category Teacher Team Members Biology Kathleen Green Pedro Teixeira, Anthony Gervasi, Alice Bailey, Jean Marie Hicks Chemistry Paul Hayman Anthony Gervasi, John Herlihy, Matt Hilt, Pedro Teixeria Physics Ed Spargo Gerald Fornwald, Erin Pjroutek, Adam Summer In Division I ( those with 500 or more students), Rapid City Stevens High School won the traveling team trophy in all three categories of competition -- biology, chemistry, and physics.
