Hasan, who has taught at Tech since 1988, sent the books to Brac University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He collected the books from friends and colleagues at Tech and Black Hills State University. "I came from Bangladesh, and wanted to help as much as I can and in the way I can, " he said. "I think educating the needy is a great cause. Being a very poor country, the universities in Bangladesh have very limited collections of books. "The books I sent were mainly old editions that we are not using but are still very useful, " he said. Hasan's Tech and BHSU colleagues responded to the request by sending Hasan approximately 400 books from many different subject areas. He boxed the books, and paid the shipping cost from his own pocket. "I know what I am supplying is not enough, but something is better than nothing." #30# |
