The Research Alliance invites the public to attend the seminar, scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the Radisson in Rapid City. The seminar is free, but seating is limited. Those interested in attending can make reservations by calling the Rapid City Area Economic Development Partnership at (605) 343-1880. Dr. Joanne Lang of the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC) will describe the efforts made in Kentucky to promote economic development. This will be the eighth Western Research Alliance workshop designed to help stimulate technology-based economic development held during the past four years. "I believe the roadmap that KSTC has developed for Kentucky might be highly applicable to our state and region, " Dr. Jon Kellar of South Dakota Tech, and one of the seminar organizers, said. Kellar is chair and professor in Tech's Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. The Western Research Alliance is a confederation of partners from the industrial, academic and private sectors. It members are interested in promoting and facilitating research, development, entrepreneurship and the commercialization of technology. The Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation is a private, nonprofit corporation committed to the advancement of science, technology and innovative economic development. Its vision is to create an innovation-driven entrepreneurial economy that makes Kentucky a leader in the development of knowledge and its applications to people, firms and organizations.
