St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 3388 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( February 10, 1997) SDSM& T OUTSTANDING RECENT GRADUATES TO BE HONORED FEBRUARY 19 Six South Dakota School of Mines & Technology graduates will receive Outstanding Recent Graduate awards from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology during its annual Engineer's Week celebration. A special recognition luncheon is planned for Wednesday, February 19, 1997, when these graduates will go through the Order of the Engineer initiation. They are Randy W. Baker, Gainesville, FL; Paris R. Briscoe, Aberdeen, SD; Eric J. Lewis, Bloomington, MN; Tamera J. Nelson, East Peoria, IL; James P. Pembroke, Phoenix, AZ, and Bruce A. Tschosik, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. The Outstanding Recent Graduate Program, established and supported by the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Foundation and the Tech Alumni Association honors Tech graduates who have achieved exemplary career progress and recognition within 10 years of their graduation. Baker, a 1986 mining engineering graduate, is Product Services Manager at Tamrock Corporation in Alachu, FL, and serves as a member of the Executive Management Committee. Tamrock Corporation is the largest producer of drilling and underground loading equipment in the world. His technical knowledge, outstanding management skills and leadership abilities significantly contributed to Tamrock's success in the U. S. Randy is a member of the Society of Mining Engineers, the Society of Explosive Engineers, and is actively involved as a parent volunteer for the Martha Manson Academy. Briscoe, a 1986 chemical engineering graduate, began a career in the design, marketing and sales of environmental control systems. During his first five years, he worked with the Interel Corporation and then ABB Air Preheater Company. Six years after graduation, he made the decision to start his own company, Dakota Environmental Solutions, in Aberdeen, SD. As owner and president of his company, Paris designs and markets environmental control systems for a variety of industries, but primarily for the foundry industry. He works closely with fabrication companies and subcontractors to produce wet scrubbing technology for industrial installations. Lewis, after graduating with a degree in chemistry in 1986, embarked on a plan of furthering his education in chemistry and medicine in order to fulfill his dream of being able to work at the forefront of science while applying his education for the direct benefit of others. Eric has shown his commitment to this goal through his many academic honors, his scientific and medical publications, and by providing exemplary medical care. He has been an influential participant at every location and in every organization he has joined, according to a Tech press release. Nelson, a 1986 metallurgical engineering graduate, accepted employment as an entry level engineer with Caterpillar in Peoria, IL. Since then, Tami has consistently been awarded more responsibility through technical positions, and currently is Team Leader of Caterpillar's Mobil- trac System Cost Reduction Team. Tami's new design as well as maintenance of the current designs for Caterpillar's Duo- Cone ® Seals are among her numerous accomplishments with Caterpillar. Along with her outstanding professional development, Tami is a Trustee of the SDSM& T Foundation and spearheaded the formation of SDSM& T's Music Supporters in Concert. She volunteers for many community activities focusing her attention upon improving the " technical literacy" of grade school students through various service organizations and works with various Peoria art groups. Pembroke graduated from SDSM& T with a B. S. degree in civil engineering in 1986 and received an M. S. degree in environmental engineering from Arizona State University in 1993. He is Senior Project Manager with HDR Engineering, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ, working on water and wastewater related projects. He has served as a Project Manager and Engineer for a variety of water/ wastewater design, construction and study projects for major municipalities in the Southwest and has maintained these clients through the delivery of high quality, timely projects. James is a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona and is active in the Water Environment Federation and the American Water Works Association. He participates in a mentoring program with Arizona State University and is a Little League coach. Tschosik graduated from Mount Marty College with a B. A. degree in business administration and mathematics in 1983 and from SDSM& T with a B. S. degree in electrical engineering in 1986. He has worked as a Project Engineer for Honeywell Commercial Flight Systems in Phoenix, AZ, and as a Product Engineer and marketing representative for Dale Electronics in Yankton, SD. Bruce recently accepted a position as Regional Sales Manager with Coiltronics Inc. in Boca Raton, FL. His career experiences have covered nearly all aspects of business in the electronics industry. Bruce's pioneering efforts have led to several new inductor products that are becoming industry standards.
