National Transportation Safety Board ( NTSB) member George W. Black, Jr. will hold a news conference this afternoon, July 17th, in Rapid City to discuss the NTSB's investigation of TWA Flight 800 and other high- profile transportation safety issues. Today is the one- year anniversary of the crash of TWA Flight 800. The press conference will be held at 2: 00 p. m. in Lacroix C & D at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. George W. Black, Jr., is the first practicing highway engineer to be appointed to NSTB's five- member board since it was established by Congress in 1967 to investigate every civil aviation accident in the U. S. and major accidents in other modes of transportation. Among the thousands of transporation safety issues investigated by NTSB are TWA Flight 800, a collision between a school bus and a commuter train in Illinois, and the safety of automobile air bags for children. Black is the keynote speaker for the National Society of Professional Engineers ( NSPE) Annual Convention being held July 17- 22. Approximately 1000 engineers from across the nation are in Rapid City for the NSPE Annual Convention. Also present at today's news conference will be NSPE President Jack D. Hinton and President- elect Kenneth W. Walch.
