The day- long workshop will feature presentations by Mike Simms, Plant Manager of Wainwright Industries, Inc., who will explain the organizational path taken by the company to achieve its successful position today. Wainwright Industries, Inc. is a family- owned manufacturer for the automotive, aerospace, home security and information process industries in the St. Louis area. One of only a few very small companies to win the 1994 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, Wainwright Industries has won several other awards, including being named by Industry Week magazine as one of the ten best plants in the United States. Wainwright's total commitment to quality has resulted in increased profitability, as well as external and internal customer satisfaction rates above 95 percent. In his dynamic presentation, Simms will share the lessons of what worked and what did not during Wainwright's quality journey. The workshop provides business, industry and service organization officials an opportunity to benefit from Wainwright's experience. Symposium participants will have an opportunity to learn the power of corporate culture and how to link culture to strategy, processes and technology; evaluate their own organization and use a proven self- assessment method to look for hidden opportunity; receive practical ideas on how to construct processes and systems that will accelerate their own corporate culture; experience how a corporate culture can be built on a commitment to sincere trust and belief in people; gain confidence in their own organization's ability to evolve; and understand diagnostic, planning, and implementation steps to move the organization forward. Engineering participants in the workshop may qualify for 8 Professional Development Hours. The symposium is sponsored by SDSM& T, SDSU University/ Industry Technology Service, South Dakota Engineering Society/ Black Hills Chapter, and the American Productivity & Inventory Control Society/ High Plains Chapter. The workshop will run from 7: 30 a. m. - 4: 30 p. m. and will be held in Room 252, Electrical Engineering/ Physics Building. The $ 200 registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and breaks.
