"We know there are many people in the Black Hills who have rich cultural traditions, and we invite them to share those traditions with the rest of the community, " Suzi Aadland, director of Tech's Ivanhoe International Center, said. "This is a community event, and we want to see as many cultures as possible represented." Community members can set up a display, cook and serve ethnic food or volunteer to help a student group organize a display. Anyone who prepares food will be reimbursed for any costs. More than 800 area schoolchildren are scheduled to attend the first day of the event. Tech invites the public to attend between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29. The event will be held in the Surbeck Student Center Ballroom. Admission is free. There will be a nominal charge for sampling native foods, available from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Cultural entertainment, including dancing and singing, also begins at 11:30 am Saturday. Cultural displays representing Norway, Japan, India, Brazil, China, Zambia, American Indians, Latin America, Bangladesh, Russia, Mongolia and the Philippines will be exhibited both days. The event is sponsored by international students, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, the Tech Student Association, National American University, International Students Inc., Tech's Ivanhoe International Center and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
