| Transcript | Dacotah Bowl highlights Mines, BHSU schedules By Jeff Budlong, Journal staff | Tuesday, July 28, 2009 Although tough games dot the South Dakota School of Mines and Black Hills State football schedules this season, it is the game near the end of the regular season that may prove to be most intriguing. The Dacotah Bank Bowl will bring all eight Dakota Athletic Conference teams together at the FargoDome in Fargo, N.D., on Nov. 8 for a playoff-like scenario. The top team in the conference will play the fourth-place team, the second- and third-place teams will square off as well as the fifth- and sixth- and seventh- and eighth-place teams. "We do lose a home game but we get a chance to be in a championship kind of game, " first-year Yellow Jacket head football coach Jay Long said. Outside of the new bowl, both Mines and BHSU point to the game against each other as one of the biggest games of the season. The Yellow Jackets will host the Hardrockers Oct. 31 with a little bit of revenge on their minds after Mines sprung the upset in Rapid City last season. "We treat every game the same, but there is no question the (Mines) game is a rivalry, " Long said. "Both schools don't have a lot of love for each other, so the guys will get up." Black Hills State comes into the new season looking to rebound from a disappointing 6-4 campaign in 2008 after winning back-to-back conference crowns the two previous seasons. Mines was able to finish the year at.500 with a 5-5 mark and will rely on the development of a talented group sophomores. The Yellow Jackets' first home game is Sept. 19 against Mayville State which also happens to be Swarm Days. Mines opens its season with a pair of home games against Montana Tech on Aug. 28 and Dakota State on Sept. 19 which is "M" Days as well as the kickoff to the ‘Rockers DAC schedule. Dickinson State went undefeated in conference play to win the title last year followed by Jamestown and Minot State.
