| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- After an impressive home stand last week, the South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team again looked sharp Friday night taking on the No. 5 NAIA Dickinson State Lady Blue Hawks at the King Center in Rapid City. And even though the Lady Hardrockers dropped the Dakota Athletic Conference game, 3-1, the home team proved that they have turned a corner on the season and compete with the best the conference as well as the nation has to offer. Dickinson State defeated SDM, 30-28, 26-30, 30-19, 30-24. The Hardrockers never led in Game 1, but kept hanging around. The Blue Hawks were able to string together some points down the stretch to gain the upper hand and win the first set. The second game however was a different story. Mines was able to gain the early edge and never relinquish it. Leading 28-25, Hardrocker junior, Agnieszka Koperek (Belchatow, Poland) came up with a big kill, which was followed by a kill from Rapid City native Jennie Malone. The Rockers were then awarded the game after a side-out was committed by the Blue Hawks. Dickinson proved why they are the conference's top team and ranked nationally, taking the third set behind a powerful offensive onslaught followed by a late charge in the final frame to net the win as well as the match. Indiviually for the Hardrockers, Koperek had a big night. The transfer from Wyoming was 14-15 on the serve with two aces, made good on 26 of 29 attacks while collecting 13 kills and was 26-29 on serve receive. Teammate Katherine Hanson (Sioux Falls) led the Mines offensive surge, going 36-38 on the attack with 12 kills. Malone also contributed with 10 kills and was 20-22 on the attack. DAC Setter of the Week , Tessa Howe had another big match for SDM, coming up with 47 assists and was 20-20 on the serve with 2 aces and the DAC Libero of the week, Mines' Jenny Hiykel excelled defensively with 20 digs and was 33-35 on serve receive. South Dakota Mines overall record falls to 9-5 on the season and they are now 2-4 in the DAC The Hardrockers continue their play at home, welcoming Minot State tonight in a 7 p.m. matchup followed by a match Sunday against Dana College at 1 p.m. Dickinson State 3, South Dakota School of Mines 1 Blue Hawks 30 26 30 30 Hardrockers 28 30 19 24 Hardrocker Statistics Serving: 93-100, 6 aces (Tessa Howe 20-20, 2 aces; Agnieszka Koperek 14-15, 2 aces) Attacks: 147-160, 56 kills (Katherin Hanson 36-38, 12 kills; Agnieszka Koperek 26-29, 13 kills; Jennie Malone 20-22, 10 kills).
