| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- After falling to the Dakota Athletic Conference top team Friday night in a very competitive match, the South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team bounced back Saturday to post a win over Minot State, 3-1, at the King Center in Rapid City. The Lady Hardrockers defeated the Beavers, 30-24, 28-30, 30-28, 30-15. Mines was able to capitalize on several Minot miscues throughout the night, winning the first game after a pair of Beaver side-out calls put the home team up, 29-24. Hardroker sophomore Amanda Cammack (Sturgis) sealed the win recording a kill to get the Game 1 win. Minot was able to hang with the very in-sync Hardrockers during the second set and squeaked out a late game win, but a costly mistake in Game 3, gave the Hardrockers a two-point win. It was all Mines in the final frame. The Lady Rockers were on the offensive for most of the set and established a sizeable lead thanks in large part to the serving of sophomore Tessa Howe (Omaha). The DAC setter of the week did very well from the line in the final frame, recording three aces in a row to help spark the momentum. The Beavers could do little to slow the Mines surge as the Hardrockers took the game and match. "I was pleased with the Game 4 win, " said Hardrocker head coach Doug Tabbert. "We were doing things a lot better. We were blocking better and we had more of an effort out of our defense." Howe was a perfect 32-32 on the serve with seven aces. The team was 115-118 with 9 aces. Stephanie Carpio (sophomore from Yuma, Colo.) also contributed going 20-20 with one ace. Mines had another impressive night offensively, making good on 125 of 150 attacks while collecting 60 kills. Freshman Katherine Hanson (Sioux Falls) paced the charge, making good on 37-42 attacks with 20 kills. Teammate Agnieszka Koperek also had a good match with 18 kills going 32-42 on the attack. "It seems like we have a new person (scoring) every week, " Tabbert said. "Last week it was (Koperek) and the week before that it was Jennie Malone. That's a good thing." The DAC libero of the week again had some impressive numbers for South Dakota Mines. Sophomore Jenny Hiykel (Omaha, Neb.) had 26 digs and went 40-43 on serve receive. The team was 74-81 on serve receive and tallied 89 total digs. Howe also had a good night at setter, recording 55 of the team's 57 asssists. The Hardrockers will jump up in the conference standings posting a 3-4 DAC mark for a three-way tie for third place. SDM is 10-5 on the season. Mines gets no rest though as they will host Dana College today in a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
