St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( December 29, 1997) SDSM& T RECEIVES ADDITIONAL $ 100, 000 GIFT FROM JOHN VUCUREVICH / HIS DONATIONS GENERATE OVER $ 600, 000 IN GIFTS AND PLEDGES TO SDSM& T The SDSM& T Foundation announced today receipt of an additional $ 100, 000 personal gift from John T. Vucurevich. His latest donation is on top of a $ 100, 000 contribution he made in 1993 to establish an endowed scholarship program at SDSM& T. In addition, the John T. Vucurevich Foundation previously gave SDSM& T a challenge grant of $ 100, 000 in which the Foundation pledged to donate $ 100, 000 payable at $ 1 for every $ 3 in new donor dollars SDSM& T received. This challenge grant generated over $ 300, 000 in new contributions from 1, 500 new donor gifts to SDSM& T. His personal gifts of $ 200, 000, combined with the Vucurevich Foundation's $ 100, 000 Challenge Grant and the resulting $ 300, 000 new gifts to SDSM& T, represent a total of more than $ 600, 000 in gifts and pledges that Vucurevich's contributions have generated to SDSM& T. His most recent donation, earmarked for his scholarship endowment, continues Vucurevich's philosophy of " helping others by giving." " This gift demonstrates John's continued commitment in the future through his support of our students, " said Dr. Richard Gowen, SDSM& T President. " Over the years his generosity will touch the lives of countless young people. He exemplifies the spirit of philanthropy and giving back to one's community." The scholarship endowment that Vucurevich established in 1993 provides academic scholarships to junior and senior students enrolled at SDSM& T with first priority to those from the Black Hills area. Currently three students, two from Rapid City and one from Black Hawk, receive the John T. Vucurevich Scholarship. His latest gift will substantially increase the number of awards available to local students. " John's support of scholarships and the Vucurevich Foundation Challenge Grant personify a basic moral and ethical standard of John Vucurevich-- to help others help themselves, " stated Rod Pappel, SDSM& T Foundation President. " His scholarship program is already benefiting local students in continuing their education. The Foundation's challenge grant helped enlist new contributors to the institution which will greatly help achieve our future goals."
