| Transcript | SD Mines men's basketball tabs transfer from Minnesota By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team recently announced the signing of the Hardrockers' newest junior college transfer Trevor Larson, who will join the SDM men's basketball squad for the 2009-10 season. Larson is a 6-foot-4-inch, 195 pound forward from Chatfield, Minn. He will be transferring to the SD School of Mines from the Rochester Community and Technical College in Minnesota. "Trevor is a hard-nosed physical kid who is also pretty athletic, " said Hardrocker men's basketball head coach Jason Henry. "He shoots the ball well and can defend a couple of different positions. He loves to do the dirty work too." As a sophomore at Rochester, Larson was named a pre-season All-American. Unfortunately he broke his foot at the beginning of the season and played only the last 11 games. He still managed to help his team to a runner-up in the state tournament, just missing out on a trip to Nationals as his team finished with a 21-9 overall record. Larson's performance in the post-season earned him a spot on the Minnesota Community College Conference all tournament team. As a sophomore Larson averaged 11.3 points and 3.4 rebounds a game, shot 56.7 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line. As a freshman Larson was an MCCC All-State player and helped his team set a record for undefeated home record. On the year, he averaged 11.9 points and 4.2 rebounds a game, shot 54 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from behind the arch as his team posted a 20-8 record. Academically, Larson was named to the Dean's List four times while attending Rochester Community and Technical College. "He will be another great addition to this year's recruiting class, " Henry said. "He's going to have to come in and get some time right away for the Hardrockers and with his previous experience I feel he will thrive in our program." The Hardrockers are coming off a winning season after posting a 19-11 overall record on the season, including an 11-game winning streak which tied a 13-year-old record. While attending the SD School of Mines, Larson plans to major in Chemical Engineering. |
