| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines FRESNO, Calif. --- South Dakota School of Mines kept a good pace Thursday at the NAIA National Outdoor Track Meet in Fresno, Calif., as two Hardrocker thinclads sprinted their way into semifinal action today. Hardrocker senior Jake Donnelly, who earned All American status after the indoor season by placing sixth in the 200-meter dash, ran both the 400- and 200-meter prelims events Thursday where he netted some pretty impressive results. Donnelly, an Elk Point native, won his heat in the 400, clocking a time of 47.36 seconds. That time was good enough to give him second overall in the event as he advances to the semifinals. Jerry Jones, of St. Gregory University (Okla.), clocked the fastest time with a 46.36. Donnelly also advanced in the 200 prelims, having the fourth fastest time in the event with a 21.48. The fastest time in that race was set by Tyrell Cuffy of King College (Tenn.) in a time of 21.17. The 400 semifinals will be run today at 4:10 p.m. (MST) and the 200 semis take place Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (MST), Donnelly will also be competing in the 4x400 relay today along with Hardrocker teammates Colton Reid, Mark Wager and Colin Royer. SDM sophomore and Rapid City native Shannon Hellman also had a stellar day to advance to the next round. She had her success in the 100 hurdles, winning her heat in a time of 14.29 seconds and securing third place overall. Zora Galcevska of Azusa Pacific took the overall fastest time of the day, clocking a 14.11 and Natalie Kent, who took second to Hellman in the 60 hurdles indoors, is currently second after Thursday's 100 hurdles with a 14.20. Hellman will run today, at 2.20 p.m. (MST). South Dakota Mines junior Chandler Young (Thornton, Colo.) will also compete today in the men's pole vault. |
