| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines MINOT, N.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines golf team made its third trip to North Dakota in as many weeks to finish up the fall portion of the 2007-08 Dakota Athletic Conference schedule, competing at the Beaver Golf Invite in Minot, N.D. Sunday and Monday. In the women's division it was Dickinson State that won team honors, collecting 767 strokes in the two-day event with Jamestown coming in second with 790. Minot settled for third and Black Hills State came in fourth with 813. The Lady Hardrockers did not have enough for a full team. Individually, Dickinson's Lyndsey Kent earned medalist honors, carding a 36-hole score of 170 with Minot's Whitney Stanley coming in second with a 178 and Jamestown College's Jessica Johnson settling for third with 179 strokes. The Hardrockers lowest score came from junior Jodi Kaup (Blackhawk) who shot a 106 on the first day and followed it up with a 115 for a total of 221. Ayla Brousen (freshman from Roscoe (S.D.) came in with a two-day total of 230 (117-113) and Dell Rapids native Steph Leber (junior) finished both days with a 113 for a total of 262. "Jodi Kaup had a personal best score. She played well, " said Hardrocker head coach Eric Glenn. With just two tournament left on the DAC schedule (in the spring), Anne Langell of Dickinson State is tied with Stanley for first place with 65 points and the Blue Hawks have a dominate lead in the team ranks with 14 points to Black Hills State's nine points. On the men's side Minot State earned top honors with 620 strokes, followed by Dickinson State with 625 and Jamestown College was third with 667. The Hardrockers were unable to field a full team. Individually, Justin Aberle of Minot State and teammate Jordan Kelly shared the lowest score as each Beaver shot a identical scores of 151 (72-79). As for the Hardrockers, Brandon Eisenbraun, a sophomore from Yankton, came in with a 158 (77-81) which netted him a tie for eighth place. Sam Hermanson (freshman from Rapid City) put up a 168 (87-81) and just missed out on the Top 10 as did junior Donny DeGooyer. He shot a 73 on the first day, but struggled in the second round, carding a 90 for a two-day total of 163. "Donny played great, " Glenn said. "He was in third place heading into Day 2." In the DAC standings, Kelly has a commanding advantage with 51.5 points. Dickinson State's Terry Poulsen is second with 47.5 points. The Hardrockers look good to qualify at least two golfers in the Top 10. Eisenbraun is currently eighth in the rankings with a score of 35 points, while Hermanson is on the outside looking in with 26 points for the 11th spot. The No. 10 position, occupied by Blue Hawk Thomas Weikle, has just a one-point edge on Hermanson. The spring portion of the DAC schedule is slated to start in April with meets in Rapid City and Spearfish, which should give SDM and BHSU golfers somewhat of an edge.
