| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines DICKINSON, N.D --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's and women's golf team traveled to North Dakota this past weekend for the Blue Hawk Invitational two-day golf tournament. The meet was held Sunday at Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson and finished up Monday at Pheasant County Golf Course also in Dickinson. And it was the Blue Hawks that swept their home meet, taking first in the team scores in both the men's and women's divisions not to mention securing top individual spots in both categories as well. The Blue Hawk men shot a two-day score of 604 to earn the victory. Minot State was second with 634 while the Hardrockers edged out Jamestown College for third carding a 672 to the Jimmies' 674. "It was our first meet of the season compared to everyone else's third tournament, " said Hardrocker head coach Eric Glenn. "And we only had a week to prepare. I am optimistic about the season because I know our scores will get better." On the women's side, Dickinson tallied 731 strokes for first, followed by Black Hills State in second with a 780, Jamestown took third (784), Minot State recorded 801 strokes for fourth and the Lady ‘Rockers came in fifth carding a 926. "A lot of our girls have never played (competitive) golf before, " Glenn said. Individually DSU's Craig Gaube earned top spot on the men's side with a 36-hole score of 147. Teammates Jake Fladeland and Carter Hikewich were both three strokes (151) back for second and third place respectively while Minot's Matt Liebel was fourth with 154. As for SDM, Rapid City native Sam Hermanson (freshman) had the top score for the Hardrockers, shooting an 81 both days for a total of 162 which netted him 10th place in the tournament. "Again it was his first tournament and there might have been a little bit of nerves there. He's a freshman and has some unfamiliarity with these (North Dakota) courses, " Glenn said. "If he can keep in the Top 10 during the fall schedule, then he will be in great position for the spring season (playing at Meadowbrook and Spearfish Canyon), " Brandon Eisenbraun (sophomore from Yankton) had a 165 (82-83) for 11th place, Ricky Clausen (freshman form Sturgis) was 16th with a two-day tally of 172, Brian Davis (junior from Lead) was 17th, carding an 82 and a 91 for 173 and Bryce Taylor (freshman from Box Elder) secured 20th with a 189 (98-91). On the women's side, Blue Hawk Megan Fisher took the meet title with a 163 while Anne Langdell of BHSU was second with a 171. Jade Herman (junior from Mision) was the top place for the SDM women with a 204 (101-103) for 11th place. "If Jade can keep on pace she will be on her way to qualifying for the regional tournament, " Glenn added. Ayla Brausen (freshman from Roscoe) shot a 236 (120-116) and took 20th, Kjada Stevens (senior from Benson, Minn.) was one spot back in 21st with a 238 (120-116), Stephanie Leber (junior from Dell Rapids) carded a 253 (121-132) fro 23rd and Jodi Kaup (junior from Black Hawk) put up a 254 (127-127) for 24th. Next up, the Hardrockers travel back to North Dakota Sunday and Monday for the Jamestown College Invitational. Men's Division Team Scores 1. Dickinson State 299-305 (604) 2.
