| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines football and cross country teams traveled to Black Hills State over the weekend to participate in the Yellow Jackets homecoming competitions while the SDM men's golf team added one more two-day meet to their fall schedule. Football The South Dakota School of Mines football team lost a disappointing Dakota Athletic Conference game to their long-time rivals Black Hills State Yellow Jackets, 58-0, Saturday in Spearfish, S.D. The game marked the 120th time the two squads had faced each other, dating back to 1895. On a positive note, sophomore quarterback Jason Beilstein (Lodi, Calif.) tied a SDM school completion record, making good on 28-39 passes for 151 yards, tying Nick Wald's completion record set against Black Hills State back in 1998. Beilstein also completed passes to seven different receivers as well. Senior Lukas Munsell (Mills, Wyo.) led the ground game, with nine carries for 15 yards while sophomore Tony Ostheimer had eight catches for 30 yards to lead all receivers. Photo by Brad Blume On the defensive side of the ball, freshman free safety Tom Lunzman (Gretna, Neb.) led the team in tackles with 11 (seven solo) while junior defensive end Colton Clark (Worland, Wyo.) and junior linebacker Tyrell Anderson (Green River, Wyo.) contributed with eight each. Junior Jarrod Luze (White, S.D.) also had a fine defensive effort with a big tackle for a loss resulting in 25 yards. The loss drops the Hardrockers to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in DAC play. Next up, the Hardrockers welcome the conference's top team in Jamestown College. The Jimmies top the DAC standings with a 6-0 overall mark and a 3-0 record in the conference. Kick-off is slated for Saturday at 1 p.m. Golf The South Dakota School of Mines men's golf team got in one more meet before putting away the clubs for the winter this past weekend at the Hapton Inn/Palace City Classic tournament in Mitchell, S.D., hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University. The Hardrockers placed eighth in the two-day event carding a 329 on the first day, followed y a 351 on Day 2 for a 36-hole score of 680. DWU won the meet with 598 strokes. Individually, Tyler Evenson of DWU, earned medalist honors with a 141. The Hardrockers best finish came from sophomore Brandon Eisenbraun (Yankton) who carded a 164 (77-97) and tied for 22nd place. Junior Donny DeGooyer (Great Falls, Mont.) had 170 strokes (83-87) for 35 place, freshman Ricky Clausen (Sturgis) was a spot back in 36th position with a 171 (84-87) and Sam Hermanson (Rapid City) took 39th with a two-day score of 175 (85-90). Cross Country The Hardrocker harriers traveled up the road this past weekend for a dual with the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets. In the women's race, BHSU's Kerry Washburn won in a time of 15 minutes 22.75 seconds. SDM's fastest time came from freshman Kendra Crisman (Rapid City), who clocked a 17:18.42 for fifth place. Junior Hardrocker Jessie Chretien (Rapid City, S.D.) finished in 15th position with a time of 20:39.99 and teammate Molly Vukelich (freshman from Rapid City, S.D.) was a spot back in 15th, clocking a time of 21.26.81. On the men's side, Yellow Jacket Allen Wood took top honors with a mark of 19:50.53. The top ‘Rocker was Colton Reid (junior from Colstrip, Mont.) who finished 10th in a time of 21:13.21. SDM senior Rob Hahn was just a few ticks back in 11th (21:22.89) and senior Kyle Kattke (Black Hawk) was also in the pack, taking 13th with a mark of 21:26.91. Hardrocker freshman Lucas Fried (Kodiak, AK) earned 19th place with a time of 22:10.99 while sophomore Marcus Moor took 24th with a 23:13.53, Corbin Haller (freshman from Sidney, Neb.), was 29th in a time of 24:41.94 and Eric Bjornebo (sophomore from Sioux Falls) secured 29th clocking a 25:01.82. Next up the Hardrockers will compete in the biggest meet of the season, traveling to Yankton for the Mount Marty Invitational Saturday. Men's Basketball RAPID CITY --- The third annual South Dakota School of Mines basketball clinic will be held Oct. 17 at the King Center in Rapid City. The clinic will feature lectures from Hardrocker basketball staff Jason Henry and Eric Glen along with Shawn Neary of Mile City Community College and Kiley Yates of South O'Brien High School in Iowa. The clinic is designed to teach techniques to basketball teams using the 2007-08 Hardrocker men's team to demonstrate. The clinic will start at 4 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m. Door prizes will also be awarded throughout the event. Pre-registration cost of the camp is $25 for the first coach and $15 for any additional coaches, prior to Oct. 13. It will be $30 at the door.
