TranscriptVedvei moves into 4th on Hardrocker all time scoring By Brad Blume Sports Information Director RAPID CITY --- South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball standout Melanie Vedvei, a senior Industrial Engineering major from Lake Preston, S.D., moved from sixth to fourth on the Lady Hardrockers 'all time scoring list after her performance this past weekend in Fremont, Neb., at the Midland Lutheran Women's Basketball Classic. Vedvei scored 40 points over the weekend, dishing in 27 Friday against Mid America Nazarene and then adding 13 markers in a game against Midland Lutheran, bringing here grand total to 1, 683 point in her career as a Hardrocker. "She is very steady with her play, " said Lady Hardrocker head coach Barb Felderman. "She is very consistent on both ends of the court. She gets a lot of points on offense and on the defensive end. She is getting a lot of rebounds and steals along with points. Vedvei moved ahead of Miaken Zeigler (200-04) who had 1, 674 points, and Ann Konechne (1995-99) who finished with 1, 654 points and is currently behind her older sister Stacy Vedvei who is third with 1, 798. Vedvei is on pace to break the 2, 000 mark by the end of the season. Vedvei also holds all the records in the steals category for the Hardrockers, having 11 in a game, 124 in a season and currently has 347 for her SDM career. "Melanie just wants to win, " Felderman said when asked if the records mean anything to Vedvei. "The secrets out on her. She is getting double and triple teamed and (still has impressive statistics)." The Hardrockers have a tough road trip this weekend, traveling to Northwestern Iowa to battle the Red Raiders Friday, followed by a difficult matchup with the University of Sioux Falls Saturday.
