| Transcript | South Dakota Mines wins DAC Scholars Award for 4th straight year By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines Dakota p (Dickinson, ND) ‐‐ For the fourth straightyear, South Mines is the reciient of theDakota Athletic Conference Scholars Award. The award is presented annually to the school with the highest percentage of student‐ athletes honored as DAC Scholar‐Athletes. Forty‐eight percent of Hardrocker athletes earned recognition for their academic achievements. "I am proud of our student‐athletes and their ability to juggle school work and athletics at the same time, " said Hardrocker Athletics Director Hugh Welsh. "It's great to see them excel in the conference." In order to be recognized as a DAC Scholar‐Athlete, a student‐athlete must have a umulative grade point average of 3.25 or better and have earned twelve or more credit ours for a semester in which he/she participates in a conference sponsored sport. ch Hardrocker men's hoop team nabs recruit from Colorado to RAPID CITY ‐‐‐ South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball head coach Jason Henry is pleasedannounce the signing of new recruit Jaryd Francis to the 2008‐09 Hardrocker hoops program. Francis is a 6‐foot‐5‐inch forward from Wolcott, Colo., who played high school basketball for theVail Christian Saints. "Jaryd is a very strong and mature freshman coming in physically, " Henry said. "He is one of the most explosive and athletic kids that I have seen since I've been at the School of Mines." Francis helped his high school team finish with a 14‐7 win‐loss record this past season. He was the team captain for the Saints where he averaged 20.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.8 assists per game in his final season. He also holds the school record in career rebounds (605), career steals (140) and career assists (178) ‐‐‐ and was the first 1, 000‐point player in Vail Christian history. Francis closed out his high school hoops career with 1, 221 markers. Francis earned All State Honorable Mention both his junior and senior year, was a three time All League selection, and was First Team All Tournament as a junior and senior as well. Along with basketball, Francis lettered in football and track as well. Hardrocker Youth Flag Football league begins Monday RAPID CITY ‐‐‐ Registration for the 2008 NFL ‐ South Dakota School of Mines Hardrocker Youth Flag Football league begins on Monday, July 7, and will end on Thursday, August 14. Registration forms are available at any Rapid City area Common Cents Food Store. The non‐contact league is open to boys and girls that will be in grades 1‐4 during the 2008‐2009 school year. The cost is $80 per player and that includes an official replica jersey of the NFL team they play for and the official ague belts and flags. School of Mines football players will serve as coaches and officials and all le games are at Dunham Field at O'Harra Stadium. Grades 1‐2 will be placed in one division and grades 3‐4 in a second division. The league begins with a clinic on Sunday, September 7, beginning at 1pm with games every Sunday beginning on eptember 14 (except Oct. 19 open date). The Super Bowl for each division will be Sunday, ovember 9. SN You may sign up as an entire team, a group of players, or as an individual. If teams or groups of layers sign up all forms should be sent together. More information is included on the sign up p forms.
