TranscriptBy Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- South Dakota School of Mines football head coach Dan Kratzer has announced the signing of another talented athlete to the Hardrockers' 2008 roster. SD Mines will bring in Jamie Dale, a 5-foot-10-inch running back from Alpine, Calif., who possesses a lot of speed and quickness and ability to move the ball up and down the football field. "We are very pleased to announce another fine addition to our football program in running back Jamie Dale, " Kratzer said. "He was a top running back in the San Diego area." Dale, who played for the Steele Canyon High School Cougars, was named to the All-Academic team in San Diego, Calif., for 2007 and was the No. 5 rusher in the entire San Diego area with 279 attempts for 1, 533 yards --- which averaged to be 6.6 yards per carry and 153 per game. Dale also averaged 12 yards per reception his senior year and scored a whopping 20 touchdowns. "Jamie gives us what we lost in Lukas Munsell, " Kratzer said comparing Dale to former ‘Rocker standout and the Dakota Athletic Conference's MVP in 2007. "Jamie is very quick with very good speed and has great hands to catch out of the backfield. He will be another competitor with the work ethic of Munsell, a guy by which we set our standards for what we look for in a successful running back". Dale and the Cougars competed in a talented division in California, the Grossmont South League, where the team finished above.500 with a 6-4 overall mark. They were third in their league with a 3-1 win-loss record. "Jamie has competed in a very competitive league in San Diego, and will give our offense that much needed boost to be able to make the key play, " Kratzer added. " In fact, half of all of Jamie's touchdowns were for longer than 10 yards --- six of those where for 25 yards or better. His shortest TD run was one yard, and his longest was 99 yards. So, as you can see he can get that hard to get yard, and also has the speed to break the big one. We certainly welcome Jamie Dale into our Hardrock Family. The SD Mines football team will host its first game of the 2008 season Aug. 31 when the Hardrockers take on Haskell Indian Nations University at O'Harra Stadium in a 6 p.m. contest.
