TranscriptBy Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines football program along with Hardrocker head coach Dan Kratzer are pleased to announce the signing of new recruit Bernis Berber to the SD Mines squad for the upcoming 2008 season. Berber has a lot of presences, standing 6-foot-5-inches and weighing 225 pounds. He played as a tight end, wide receiver and defensive end for the Tempe High School Buffaloes in Tempe Ariz., and now wishes to be an offensive threat at the college level for the ‘Rockers. "Bernis is an honor student that has only played football for a year and a half, " Kratzer said. "He has played receiver, tight end and defensive end (in high school). I told him that his best position on the field will be as a receiver for Mines. "He is strong and a solid runner with very good hands. Bernis also played basketball for his Tempe high school team, and at 6-5, 225 pounds --- his presence was felt on the court also." An immigrant from Bosnia, Berber and family became U. S. citizens and now he is looking forward to using his skills to study a pre-med track and looks forward to the opportunity to use his math and science skills at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. "Bernis is another great fit for our program, and should make an impact soon, " Kratzer said. "He has the physical size and skills to contribute to a winning season." The Hardrockers season begins with a home game against Haskell Indian Nations University Aug. 31 at O'Harra Stadium with a 6 p.m. start time.
