TranscriptBy Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines football program along with Hardrocker head coach Dan Kratzer are pleased to announce the signing of new recruit Jonathan Tristao for the 2008 season. Tristao is a 6-foot-3-inch 230 pound wide receiver from Hilmar High School in Hilmar, Calif., with deceptive speed and an outstanding athletic ability to be a playmaker for the Hardrocker squad. "Jonathan Tristao is an outstanding recruit for this program, " Kratzer said. "He has the size, speed and skills to be a contributor to our program right away." Tristao has been clocked running the 40-yard dash at 4.75 seconds, can bench 350 pounds, can squat 435 pounds and has a vertical jump of 26.8 inches. His scholastic statistics are just as impressive, boasting a GPA of 4.1. "Jon has excellent speed for a man of 235 pounds as well as excellent hands, " Kratzer said. "With a 4.1 GPA and planning to major in civil engineering, Jon is certainly an outstanding fit for Mines --- and Mines is certainly an outstanding fit for him." After his senior season, Tristao earned first team all league, second team all district, was three-year member of the California Scholarship Federation as well as a three-year honor roll member. Tristao averaged 6.25 yards per carry his senior year and averaged 17.17 yards per reception. "I am looking forward to working with Jon and expect him to be an outstanding receiver in this program, " Kratzer said.
