| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- South Dakota School of Mines head football coach Dan Kratzer is pleased to announce the addition of local standout Colen Kling to the Hardrocker football 2008 roster. Kling is a 6-foot-2-inch 230 pound multi-sport athlete from Belle Fourche, playing the full back position in football, is a powerful sprinter on the Broncs' track team and played hoops for the BFHS for past two seasons as well. "Colen is another great sign for us here at Mines, " Kratzer said. "He's local recruit that has outstanding physical credentials to come in and help our running game without losing a stride. Colen runs the 100-meter and 200-meter dash in track and is a member of the 4x100 relay team. At 6-2 and 230 pounds --- that's not the norm." Competing for the Broncs, Kling has earned All State honorable mention as a full back for two straight years, been named to the BHC All Conference Team twice and earned the South Dakota All State Team Player Award as a fullback. Off the field, Kling finished high school with a 3.72 GPA, scored a 27 on his ACT's and is a member of the National Honor Society. "An outstanding student with a 3.72 GPA, Colen will be able to team up with long-time friend and older brother Clint, who signed with us out of Sierra Junior College in Rocklin, Calif., " Kratzer said. "Although Colen is smaller of the two, his 230 pounds can run with the football. He has been a three-sport letterman at Belle Fourche High School and will be a great asset to our program here at Mines." Colen's brother Clint signed with the Hardrockers back in March with a wealth of experience playing both offensive and defensive line. For SDM his talents will be focused mainly on the defensive side of the ball. "Colen, like his brother Clint, is a young man of great character and will be an excellent role model for the youngsters in our NFL flag football program which is directed each year by our players." Kratzer added that having a pair of brothers on the Hardrocker team with the talent they both possess will make for interesting things to come. "I suspect that there will be a lot more to talk about with the Kling brothers over the next few seasons, " the coach added. "I am very excited that Colen has chosen us for his college home." |
