St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 3388 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( April 22, 1997) " UFOs: THE HIDDEN HISTORY" PROGRAM TO BE PRESENTED APRIL 23 AT SDSM& T Robert Hastings, an independent UFO researcher and lecturer, will present a 90- minute lecture and slide show entitled " UFOs: The Hidden History" at 7: 00 p. m., Wednesday, April 23, in the Surbeck Center Ballroom. The program is being sponsored by Tech's Totally Outrageous New Initiative for Total Entertainment ( TONITE), the campus organization that sponsors Tech's major social activities. Hastings' intriguing presentation is based on previously classified government documents that were obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. At the conclusion of the program, Mr. Hastings will provide information that will allow members of the audience to access up to 600 pages of these now- released government documents. Hastings says his interest in UFOs stems from his being present at an air traffic control tower at Malmstrom Air Force Base near Great Falls, Montana, in 1967 when Air Force jets were launched to intercept five UFOs which were tracked on radar for several minutes. Hastings states he later learned from Air Force sources that " as the jets closed in, the UFOs performed a vertical ascent and left the area at an enormous speed far beyond the capability of any conventional aircraft." Hastings has spent countless hours researching UFOs and our government's response to them. He has studied several hundred FBI and CIA documents concerning UFOs which were made public under the Freedom of Information Act. Since 1981 Hastings has spoken at over 500 colleges and universities about the intriguing information which he and other researchers have obtained. Hastings is employed as a laboratory analyst by a semiconductor manufacturer in Albuquerque, NM. The lecture is open to the public. Admission is $ 3 ( free for Tech students, faculty, and staff.) For additional information, contact Troy Thorson, TONITE President, at 394- 2652, or Robert Hastings at 505- 771- 8425. ++ 30++ ( fs1/ programs/ dept/ univrel/ pressrele/ 0497/ UFOs faxlocal)
