TranscriptBy Brad Blume Vedvei named NAIA All American Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball standout Melanie Vedvei was named to the NAIA All American team for the second year in a row. Vedvei, an Industrial Engineering major from Lake Preston, S.D., earned the honor despite going down midway through her senior season with a knee injury. Vedvei finished the year with 399 points, 121 total rebounds, 110 assists and 87 steals. She also broke the NAIA Div. II career steals record, tallying 420 in her four years as a Hardrocker and was just a mere four assists away from setting a new SDM career assists record. She finished her career with 488 assists. Vedvei holds a number of school records. She has every school steals record --- career steals (420), steals in a season (124) and steals in a game (11). She also holds the record for most career free throws made at 555 as well as owning the most field goals attempted in a game at 36. Vedvei is also the second all time scorer in Lady Hardrocker history, cashing in for 1, 972 career points.
