| Transcript | MadiLane AshleyKemnitz ReannaRoberson By Brad Blume SDM netters add 3 more recruits Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team along with Hardrocker head coach Beth Honaker are please to announce the signing of new recruits Madi Lane of Fort Collins, Colo., Ashley Kemnitz of Vivian, S.D, and Reanna Roberson from Windsor, Colo.. All three girls come into the Lady Hardrocker program as freshmen and should add a lot of solidarity to the SDM volleyball team. Lane is a 6-foot outside hitter that attended Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins. She earned all conference honors in 2007 and in 2005. She was also an athlete of the week selection in 2005. Lane also excelled as a track and field athlete taking third at the state track meet in 2005 and 2006. "Madi is going to be a big presence in the front row, " said Hardrocker head coach Beth Honaker. "She should help our offense out a lot." Lane decided on SD Mines because six member of her family have gotten an education there including her older brother who is currently taking classes at SDSM&T. Lane plans to major in Chemical Engineering while at SD Mines. "Madi has many relatives that have gone to school here, " Honaker added. "She knows that the academics speak for themselves." Lane will also be part of the track and field team next year, competing as a high jumper. Kemnitz also has some family ties to the School of Mines as her older brother, Brian, is currently competing for the Hardrocker football program. Kemnitz (5-9)chose to become a Hardrocker because she feels the volleyball program is still on the rise and because of the outstanding educational program. Kemnitz attended Lyman County High School near Vale. During her high school volleyball career, Kemnitz has been named the outstanding female athlete of the year for Lyman High School, earned all conference honorable mention, was named to the Sully Buttes all tournament team in 2006 and 2007 and was honored with the Team MVP award in volleyball, basketball and track. "Ashley is going to be a great all around player, " Honaker said. "She's got a lot of athletic ability and I could see her fitting into a number of different roles on the team." Kemnitz plans to major in Pre-professional Interdisciplinary Sciences while at SD Mines and then go on to Optometry School. Kemnitz will also be on next year's track team as a hurdler and sprinter and potentially a pentathlon partipant. Roberson (5-4) played volleyball at Greeley West High School where she received all conference honorable mention, lettered in volleyball since she was a freshman, was academic all state first team, earned an academic letter and was a member of the National Honors Society. "Reanna is coming in next year as a defensive specialist and I have hopes of her one day taking over at the libero position once (Jenny) Hiykel graduates, " Honaker said. "She is very quick, has a great platform and has lots of potential to do well in our program." Roberson wanted to attend the School of Mines because it was exactly what she was looking for as far as academics go, it was close to home and she like the quality of Hardrocker athletes and coaching staff. While attending SDSM&T Roberson plans to major in civil engineering. The Hardrocker volleyball team is coming off one of their most successful seasons to date, finishing with a 23-6 overall record and making a run deep into the Dakota Athletic Conference post season tournament, where the SDM netters were playing for the DAC tournament crown and a chance to advance to the NAIA National Tournament. |
