| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines JAMESTOWN, N.D. ‐‐‐ The South Dakota School of Mines men's and women's golf teams made another trek to North Dakota this past weekend to compete in the two‐day Jamestown College tournament at the Jamestown Country Club. The Hardrockers men showed some major improvement as the team edged Dickinson State in the team standings by one stroke to secure second place with 640 strokes. The Blue Hawks settled for third with 641. The Minot State Beavers won the team race with 618 and Jamestown College settled for fourth with a score of 700. "They had a good weekend, "said Hardrocker head coach Eric Glenn. "The greens were a little bumpy and kind of sandy, but the guys didn't let that affect them. They didn't let the little things bother them. They were focused on what they could control. Our guys didn't play their best on Sunday, but they grinded it out and kept themselves in the running on Monday." Individually, three golfers tied for top honors with a 36‐hole score of 152. The top SDM score was carded by Brandon Eisenbraun (a Mechanical and Chemical engineering major from Yankton, S.D.). The junior put up a total score of 154 which was good enough for a share of fourth place overall. Teammate Brad Schaack (a junior Mechanical Engineering Major from Vermillion, S.D) also made the Top 10, finishing in a tie for 10th after tallying 160 strokes. As for the rest of the SDM men, Quinton Patterson (senior Mechanical Engineering Major from Sioux Falls, S.D.) put up a 165, Andy Ford ( junior Mechanical Engineering major from Custer, S.D.) came in with a 168 and Sam Hermanson (a junior Industrial Engineering major from Rapid City, S.D.) rounded out the tournament with a 170. "The guys are very confident now that they know they can compete with these other teams in the conference, " Glenn said. "It just a matter of knowing what they can do." On the women's side, Black Hills State took top team honors with 747 strokes for two days, followed by Minot State's 754. Dickinson State took third with a 777 and the Lady Hardrockers secured fourth place with 915 strokes. "Our girls are improving and coming along, " Glenn said. "We have been working hard and wanting to get some personal best scores posted and we are right on the verge. We are close and I can see us (breaking some PB marks) in the next couple of tournament." Individually, the Hardrocker team continues to improve. The top score for SDM was submitted by Jodi Kaup (a senior Industrial Engineering major from Blackhawk, S.D.) with a 220. Steph Leber (a senior Pre‐Law major from Dell Rapids, S.D.) was next for the ‘Rockers tallying a 228 for the tournament. Teammate Ayla Brausen (a sophomore Interdisciplinary Science major from Ipswich, S.D.) came in with a 231 and Jamie Lien (a sophomore Interdisciplinary Science major from Presho, S.D. finished with a 236. Next up, the Hardrockers make one final trip to North Dakota to compete at the Minot State Invitational Sunday and Monday. The tournament will be held at Souris Valley Golf Course on Sunday and Minot Country Club Monday. The conclusion of that meet would put an end to the fall portion of the DAC golf season. In the Dakota Athletic Conference for the men's team standings, Minot has the lead with 7.5 points, followed by Dickinson with 5.5. The Hardrockers are just a half a point back in third place with 5 points and Jamestown College has 2. "It would be nice to get ahead of Dickinson, " Glenn said and added that the spring portion of the schedule has the SDM and BHSU courses yet to play ‐‐‐ giving an advantage to the South Dakota Schools. Individually, Eisenbraun and Schaack are both in the Top 10 standings. Eisenbraun is sixth with 26 points and Schaack is two spots back in eighth with 24.
