St. Joseph Street Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( May 7, 1997) SDSM& T's SOLAR CAR WILL COMPETE IN FINAL SUNRAYCE QUALIFIER SDSM& T's Solar Motion team is getting its solar- powered car, Dakota Sun, ready to compete in next month's final qualifying competition for one of the sixteen slots still open for Sunrayce ' 97. The final round of qualifiers will be held June 17- 18 in Indianapolis shortly before the start of Sunrayce ' 97. At the recent Western Region Qualifier in Mesa, AZ, Tech's solar car passed the rigorous Scrutineering inspection with high marks for safety and for use of technology. However, the car ended up short of completing the required miles to qualify for Sunrayce ' 97 during the first round of qualifying opportunities. Corporate sponsors and individual sponsors of solar cells are still needed to help SDSM& T's team compete in Sunrayce ' 97. For additional information, please contact Cathy Prapotnik or Cheyenne Vig at 394- 2213. -- 30-- ( f:\ programs\ dept\ univrel\ pressrele\ Sunrayce Mesa fax/ local)
