| Transcript | Lady Rockers tally 23 steals in win onver Wildcats DENVER, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team improved its overall record to 12-3 on the season with a 74-61 win over the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats Tuesday evening in Denver, Colo. The win marked the end of the non-conference portion of the Lady Hardrockers schedule and gives Mines a four-game winning streak. There was an awful lot of thievery committed by South Dakota Mines as the ‘Rockers accumulated a healthy steals total, collecting 23 as a team. Seniors Jennie Malone (Rapid City, S.D.) and Melanie Vedvei (Lake Preston, S.D.) along with freshman Stephany Bjustrom (Algona, Iowa) led the Hardrockers with four each and freshman Whitney Ashford (Littleton, Colo.) contributed with three. The Hardrockers outscored the Wildcats, 41-34 in the first half and backed it up in the second period with a 33-27 edge. Senior NAIA All American and two-time Dakota Athletic Conference MVP Vedvei led all scores with 23 points, while sophomore teammate Bethany Holyoak added 17 markers and Ashford dished in eight. Johnson and Wales proved to be a much improved team since the first time SD Mines faced them. Back in November, the Lady ‘Rockers defeated JWU by a 61-point margin. Brook Durant and Sarah Fitzpatrick paced the home team with 17 points each while Andrea Austin contributed with 12. Jacinda Baumann was a force in the paint coming down with a game-high 11 rebounds. The SD Mines women's team hits the ground running in the DAC facing highly touted Jamestown College and Valley City State Friday and Saturday. The Vikings are first on the list in a 5:30 p.m. contest Friday with the Lady Jimmies to follow Saturday at 4 p.m. SDM men's hoops gets strong play from bench in loss to JWU DENVER, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team improved its overall record to 12-3 on the season with a 74-61 win over the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats Tuesday evening in Denver, Colo.
