| Transcript | Chandler Caldwell Caldwell breaks own school record By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RENO, NEV. --- South Dakota School of Mines senior Chandler Caldwell, from Thornton, Colo., competed in the Reno Pole Vault Summit Jan 4 and 5 in Reno, Nev., where the Metallurgical Engineering major broke his own school record by clearing 15-feet-7-inches. Caldwell finished in the Top 20 of the college ranks at the competition, going head-to-head against other collegian athletes from all divisions (NCAA Div. I, II and III and NAIA) That mark was a two-inch improvement over his old height of 15-5, set back in December at the Early Bird Invitational at Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D., and it also bettered his height as an automatic qualification for the NAIA National Indoor Meet to be held at the end of the season in Johnson City, Tenn. Caldwell received All American status after the NAIA Outdoor National Meet last spring when he finished sixth with a vault of 15-11. He also competed at the National Indoor Meet last year as well. Caldwell will attend another high caliber pole vaulting event, taking part in the Air Force All Comers Meet Jan. 13 in Colorado Springs, Colo. South Dakota School of Mines pole vaulter Chandler Caldwell broke his own Hardrocker school record at the Reno Pole Vault Summit in Nevada this past weekend after clearing a height of 15-feet-7-inches. The Thornton, Colo., native, pictured left during a meet at BHSU also improved his automatic qualification mark for the NAIA National Meet to be held at the end of the season in Johnson City, Tenn.
