| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- South Dakota School of Mines sophomore Dustin Meneley (Naples, Fla.) was recently named to the Victory Sports Network/College Fanz All American Football Second Team making the prestigious list as a punt return specialist. "Dustin is well deserving of the high honor, " said Hardrocker football head coach Dan Kratzer. "He has been an excellent practice player, and that is why he performs so well in games." Meneley racked up some impressive statistics during his second year with the Hardrockers. In the 2008 season, the Industrial Engineering major returned 20 punts for 343 yards. He averaged 17.2 yards on each return and also ran back one punt for a touchdown. His longest return for the year was 75 yards. On the national level, Meneley ranked second in the NAIA for punt return yards per attempt (17.2) and also led the Dakota Athletic Conference with total yards (343), total returns (20), as well as return average (17-2). As a team, the Hardrockers ranked first in the country in punt return attempts (18.6 yards). "We plan on getting the ball in his hands more in the future, his speed needs to be utilized some more on offense. As a Second Team All- American and as a sophomore his future is bright, " Kratzer said. Meneley also returned kicks for SD Mines, where he returned 19 for 497 yards. He averaged 26.2 yards on each return, took one back for a touchdown and had a long of 95 yards. Meneley's main job was as a defensive back for SD Mines, but he also saw time at the wide receiver position and even took direct snaps as the quarterback for the ‘Rocker offense. "Dustin has been a starting DB and returner since he arrived here as a freshman. If anyone is capable of going both ways he is, but with the ball in his hands on special teams he has been nothing less than special." The Hardrockers finished the 2008 campaign with a 5-5 overall mark – the first.500 season since 1995. The 2009 season begins Aug. 29 at Dunham Field at O'Harra Stadium with the Hardrockers squaring off with the Montana Tech Orediggers. That game is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
