| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines Men's Basketball team made a big upgrade to its roster recently with another high quality commitment, this time coming from a familiar hometown name. After spending two years at the University of Alaska Anchorage, St. Thomas More standout Kyle Doerr has decided to returned home and will transfer in as the Hardrockers' newest recruit. Doerr is a 6-foot-7-inch, 220-pound forward who brings back NCAA Div. II experience from the Anchorage Sea wolves. He saw action in all 29 games as redshirt freshman --- starting in nine of them. He also posted the team's third-best assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.39-1 (46-33). Doerr also brings a very impressive high school resume with him. He was a five-year starter for the Cavalier and never missed a game. He had four consecutive South Dakota Class A state tournament appearances, two back-to-back State A Championships in 2006 and 2007 and helped compile a won-loss record in that time of 94-9 while averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. After his senior year of high school, Doerr was awarded his third consecutive Class A All Tournament Team; third consecutive all-conference first team selection; two-time Lakota Nations Invitational All Tournament (LNI) team; LNI Playmaker Award; 2007 South Dakota Mr. Basketball finalist; McDonald's All-American Team nominee; Hanson-Anderson Invitational Camp MVP runner-up and most assists award; and leads STM with most charges taken. Doerr also holds the school record for most points scored in a game at 34. Doerr also had a pretty successful football career. As a defensive end, Doerr was a part of the State A runners-up team. He received all conference honors after recording 12 sacks as a senior. Doerr will transfer in as a sophomore after redshirting for the Seadogs his first season. While attending SD School of Mines, Doerr plans to major in Environmental Engineering. The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has a proud heritage of preparing graduates to serve as leaders in engineering and science.
