| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- After a very productive 2008-09 season in which they finished with a lot of positives and made a push into the post-season, the South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball program added another weapon to its arsenal with the signing of Lance Kilburn to the 2009-10 roster. Kilburn is a 6-foot-4-inch, 185-pound guard from Lawrence, Kan. He played his high school basketball for the Lawrence Lions helping guide his team to the 6A Kansas State Championship game in 2008. "Lance is a very versatile player and a super competitive kid, " said Hardrocker men's head basketball coach Jason Henry. "He has the strength, size and maturity that a typical freshman doesn't." During Kilburn's senior year, he averaged 17 points a game and shot 53 percent from the field. He was 53 percent from three-point range and made 72 percent of his free throws and also grabbed eight rebounds per game. "Lance is one of those do-everything kind of guys, " said Lawrence High School boys' basketball head coach Chris Davis. "He's very versatile for being a guard. He rebounds well and can sit outside and shoot the three. He was our leading rebounder on the team this year (senior season) --- and like I said, he's a guard." At the conclusion of his senior year, the Lions just missed out on a return trip to the state tournament, Kilburn was voted to the All-Sunflower League and All-Area teams. As a junior, Kilburn averaged 13 points per game and was selected the All Area runners-up team. "He's a good shooter and does an excellent job of getting to the basket, " Henry said. "He will be able to play a couple of different positions in our system. I���m pretty excited to get that quality for the Hardrockers --- on and off the court." Kilburn is also a two-year letter winner for the Lawrence High School baseball program, is a Kansas Honor Scholar and has been on the honor roll for the last four years. "I'd call (Lance) an Iron Man, " Davis said. "He has a strong will and on the court played all five positions for us. He did everything. He has a real head for the game." While attending SD School of Mines, Kilburn plans to take up a major in Mining Engineering and Management. ‘Rocker men get all-around Kansas athlete Lance Kilburn "He should fit right in (at the School of Mines), " Davis added. "I am excited about his choice and it's a perfect fit." The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has a proud heritage of preparing graduates to serve as leaders in engineering and science.
