TranscriptBy Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball program added a very talented athlete to its team recently with the signing of Hillary Hawkins of Elizabeth, Colo. Hawkins is a versatile 5-foot-7-inch guard who can play a number of positions on the basketball court. During her senior campaign for the Elizabeth High School Cardinals, Hawkins averaged 15.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. "Hillary can play a variety of positions, " said Lady Hardrocker women's basketball coach Barb Felderman. "She is a good shooter and understands the game very well." Hawkins is also a three-time 4A All-Conference first team selection, been named to the Rocky Mountain News All State Basketball Honorable Mention list twice; was a part of the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All State Basketball Team and was a Wendy's High School Heisman Colorado State Finalist. In her high school basketball career, Hawkins is the school's all time scoring leader with 1, 398 points; is the school's all time rebound leader with 766 boards; and is second all time in three-point goals made with 132. She also has a shooting percentage of 83 percent for free throws made in her four-year career. "We are excited that Hillary has decided to continue her education and basketball career here at the SD School of Mines, " Felderman added. Hawkins is also an accomplished volleyball player, earning all conference first-team honors two years in-a-row and being named to the Colorado High School Coaches All State Volleyball Team this past season. While attending SD School of Mines, Hawkins plans to pursue a major in Chemical Engineering. The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has a proud heritage of preparing graduates to serve as leaders in engineering and science.
