| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines football program had its best season in over 10 years in 2008. The Hardrockers finished with a 5-5 overall record and were very competitive in the Dakota Athletic Conference going head-to-head with all their DAC opponents which included a dramatic win over long-time rival Black Hills State. The SDM coaching staff wants to use last year as a spring board of even better things to come for this coming year and have had a busy and productive off-season recruiting incoming freshmen to boost the roster and add depth to the lineup. "We feel weve strengthened our linebacker positions along with the offensive and defensive line position, " said fifth-year head coach Dan Kratzer. "We have also added great depth to our quarterback position, receiving core, kicking game and the defensive secondary positions as well." The Hardrockers have already added 32 new recruits to the roster and still have June and July to find more. The line backing unit has received the most attention with eight new members while the offensive linemen have added seven players and the defensive secondary will have six additions. "We want to continue to put points on the board while making some big plays on defense, " Kratzer said. These guys will help us accomplish that."
