| Transcript | Rudebusch inducted into Rapid City Hall of Fame RAPID CITY --- The voice of the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrocker athletics, Tom Rudebusch, was recently honored by the Rapid City Officials by being inducted into the Rapid City Hall of Fame. A ceremony was held earlier this week at the Rapid City Civic Center where Rudebusch joined the ranks of other great Rapid City inductees going into the Hall of Fame as a contributor. "It's a nice honor, " said Rudebusch. "I am proud of the association I have with the SD School of Mines, the Post 22 baseball team and Rapid City. I really appreciate the Rapid City Sports Officials for selecting me." Rudebusch began his sports broadcasting career as a teenager in 1975 and continues a full schedule of broadcasts today as the voice of Rapid City Post 22 baseball and the Hardrockers. He broadcasts football and men's and women's basketball for the Hardrockers and is also responsible for fundraising and scholarships for the SDM athletic department running the Hardrocker Club and is the president of the Hardrocker Marketing division as well. The Brookings native moved to Rapid City where he graduated from Rapid City Central. Rudebusch is being inducted into the hall of fame as a contributor and has announced all major sports on the radio and has been behind the microphone for over 2, 550 play-by-play broadcasts as of 2008. Rudebusch has announced all major sports on the radio, including football, baseball, basketball and hockey --- and also broadcast the South Dakota High School basketball tournaments on television in 1985 and 1986. He has been behind the microphone for over 2, 550 play-by-play broadcasts as of this past April. He has broadcast every South Dakota State American Legion Baseball Tournament since 1976. In 1980 he began his long association with the South Dakota School of Mines as its Sports Information Director and served in that capacity until September 2006. He added the additional duties of Hardrock Club Executive Director in 1989 and continues in that capacity today. "I am pleased to join the number of other SD School of Mines inductees, " Rudebusch added. "This honor is definitely a highlight of my broadcasting career." During his time with the Hardrock Club he has directed efforts that have raised over 5 million dollars for scholarships and the construction of the Christensen Hall of Fame addition on campus that honors School of Mines' athletes, coaches and contributors. In 2006, Rudebusch, along with Mines alumni George and Nancy Dunham started Hardrock Marketing, a company devoted to return 65 percent of profits to the School of Mines athletic scholarship program. The following year, Rudebusch along with School of Mines alumni Edson Bearg, co-authored a book entitled "Inside the Program – A History of College Football." The two volume set sells nationally and tells the complete story of college football. |
