| Transcript | By Brad Blume Sports Information Director South Dakota School of Mines FORT COLLINS, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's and women's track teams traveled to Fort Collins, Colo., this past weekend for the high powered Jack Christensen Invitational. The Hardrockers went up against some of the region's toughest competition at the NAIA and NCAA Div. I and II levels. "I didn't think we ran particularly well at the track meet, but we didn't lose any ground either, " said Hardrocker head track coach Jerry Schafer. "We held our own." The biggest highlight of the meet for SD Mines was the performance of Madi Lane. Lane, a freshman at SD Mines, is from Fort Collins, and she excelled in her homecoming as she captured third place in the high jump after clearing a height of 5-foot-3-inches. That mark is her best so far for the outdoor season. She is still a couple inches away from securing a provisional (5-5) or automatic (5-6) qualification for the NAIA National Meet, but the potential is there. As for other individual performances: Scott Anderson and Blake James both had season-best times in the 800-meter run --- Anderson clocked a time of 2 minutes 0.97 seconds and James posted a 2:03.64; Colton Reid had the top Hardrocker time in the 800 with a season-best effort of 1:59.97; Aaron DeCurtin's had his best effort of the year in the 400 dash after clocking a time of 53.26; Thomas Everett claimed his best mark of the season in the 5, 000 run after posting a time of 16:28.48; and Kendra Crisman had a season-best time in the 800 with a 2:31.51. The Hardrockers will take a week off and then prepare for the Dakota Athletic Conference Meet May 8-10 in Madison, S.D. "We hope to be ready and put everything together for the conference meet, " Schafer added. ‘Rockers measure up at high powered meet |
