St. Joseph Street • Rapid City, SD 57701- 3995 Phone: ( 605) 394- 6082/ 2554 • Fax: ( 605) 394- 6177 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ( May 21, 1997) Mini Grants Available for Summer Teacher Workshop The Aerospace in the Curriculum teacher workshop sponsored by the SD Space Grant Consortium at SDSM& T will be July 21- 25, 1997. The week- long workshop provides hands- on, interactive educational experiences for teachers and youth organization personnel K- 12. The Space Grant Consortium is offering up to 4 mini grants for workshop tuition to Native American teachers. The deadline to pre- register and apply for the mini grants is June 15. Enrollment is limited to 24 participants. The course will be cancelled if less than 15 register. Presenters will be Education Specialists from NASA/ Johnson Space Center; Bill Daley, Hernandez Engineering, sub contractor to NASA's Space Shuttle Earth Observation Project; Dennis Yeager, Director Aerospace Education Civil Air Patrol North Central Liaison Region; staff from the Federal Aviation Administration. Participants will all receive a year's supply of curriculum resources for their class and participate in area field trips. The workshop is offered for college credit through the School of Mines or Augustana College, cerification renewal through the Rapid City School Board or workshop non- college credit. Costs are $ 40.00 non college credit, $ 140.00 Augustana College undergraduate or graduate credit in education or physics, $ 175.00 graduate credit in Meteorology Special Topics/ SDSMT.
