| Transcript | RETIRED Finally the old Red truck has been put out to pasture. Ole Red saw its last duty on the 24th of November, when it had to rescue a truck of furniture bound for the Radar site. In my last article about Big Ole Red, I mentioned how hard it worked. But now the fenders flap in the breeze, the floor boards move under your feet, and you can see the road in front and below and on the sides just by glancing down. I'm sure it has lots of good miles in it, but it's a small hazard to drive. We will miss the old truck ( but not much!) as it has been replaced by a new 1990 Chev 3/ 4 ton 4 wheel drive with 1, 000, 000 + miles, it has a nice shiny paint job, fairly good tires, and it does not have any rust holes for wind and snow to blow through. It has been equiped with the old plow, New lift frame, and old sander, with the controls in a comfortable place on the dash. The radio is passable. So as time passes, so do the vehicles. Ole Red did not last until my retirement, but close. This closes the chapter on a real good old work horse. For those who did not see Red in action, you really missed something. As the old story goes: " What is Red, has 4 wheels and sleeps three?" The answer of course is Big Ole Red. By the way it is not true. So let's all take a minute and hang our head as we send Red to the big Highway in the sky. Bob Cecil Grounds Supervisor |
